A special meeting of the Board of Education of Wilber Clatonia Public Schools convened in open and public sessions on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the school house, 900 South Franklin, at 7:00 p.m., Wilber, Nebraska. The roll was called and the following board members were present: Bob Sykes, Chris Cerveny, Scott Havel, Jerry Petracek, Tim Riechers and Michelle Pryor. Other guests that were present were: Ray Collins, Superintendent.
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication in accordance with the board approved method of giving notice of meetings. Notice of meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. Availability of the Agenda was available in the Superintendent’s office. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to attendance of the public.
President Sykes called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. At the beginning of the meeting President Sykes welcomed visitors and reviewed the procedures for addressing the board. President Sykes also announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the wall of the meeting room and directed the public to its location.
A motion was made by Chris Cerveny and seconded by Scott Havel to approve the following consent items: Board members receipt of notice of meeting acknowledgement; public notice of meeting acknowledgment; and approval of the agenda. After discussion and on roll call vote, the Board voted as follows: voting for: Bob Sykes, Chris Cerveny, Scott Havel, Jerry Petracek, Tim Riechers and Michelle Pryor; voting against: none. Motion carries.
President Sykes opened the Budget Hearing at 7:03 p.m. Superintendent Collins verified publication of printing of both hearing notices in the Wilber Republican on September 8, 2011. The Board reviewed the budget documents and discussed future consideration. The Board instructed Superintendent Collins to increase General Fund budget and Levy by 1 cent over the published budget in light of anticipated losses in State Aid due to increase in valuation.
President Sykes closed the Budget Hearing and opened the Hearing to set the final tax request at 8:17 p.m. the Board members reviewed and discussed the final tax request and impact of increased budget on final tax request. President Sykes closed the hearing at 8:30 p.m.
The next meeting of the Wilber Clatonia Public Schools will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
