The 7th graders in Mr. Penner’s Social Studies class took an afternoon field trip to the Homestead National Monument of America the last week of school. The students had been studying Nebraska History and our important link to the Homestead Act.
While at the Homestead, the students viewed a movie about the history of the Homestead Act and the monument, worked a scavenger hunt in the museum, completed a guided walk on the prairie trails by Mr. Penner, and got an “old-time” education in the Freeman schoolhouse from a park staff member.
All 7th graders went on the trip and completed an analysis of their experience after they returned. It is great to have such a historical resource close to the school district.
