School Info: Administration

From the Super

By Dave Rokusek

April 24, 2008

At the regular April board meeting this week the board took action to reinstate the preschool program of the district for the 2008-09 school year. The program was discontinued due to budget cuts last year. The program emphasis will change a bit from the past and be an optional pre school program open to interested 4 year old children of the district. Students will be required to attend four half days, Monday through Thursday. Transportation will be provided. A fee, paid in advance, will be charged for participating children of $50.00 a week/ $200.00 a month. The fee will serve to absorb cost of the teacher and transportation expenses. A sliding scale will be available for families that qualify for free and reduced lunch. The program will be run to meet the State Department of Education’s rules and regulations, so to qualify for state aide reimbursement in the future. Verified disabled preschool children of the district will also be served by this program. This is another great program for our school district. An abundance of recent research outlines the benefits of an early childhood preschool program. The legislature and the State Department of Education over the past years have encouraged districts to begin such programs. Parents having eligible children will be contacted by letter to determine their interest. Parents should call the elementary school at 821-2141 and talk to Mr. Brozovsky, the elementary principal if questions.

In other business the board identified three priority areas for summer repair of the school and building. The HS gym hallways ceiling tile and lights, the HS telephone system, and continued replacement of the 15 passenger vans. All of these projects are to be completed by the start of next school year.

All this action just means we are getting closer to ending this school year as we prepare for the next. Don’t forget graduation is Saturday May 10th at 4pm. Our thought for the week-“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature…life is either a daring adventure or nothing”—Helen Keller. Take care and stay in touch!
